Eklego is seeking a dedicated Director of Landscape and Land Management to work full time with a well-established and respected organization in Elizabethtown, PA. 

In this full-time leadership role, you will be responsible for planning, organizing and directing the Land Management department including Landscape, Agricultural and Horticultural production.

The Director of Landscape and Land Management is responsible for the health, maintenance and curb appeal of all the grounds situated on over 1400 acres of land in Lancaster County, including gardens, grass, trees, orchards, pasture lands and farms. In this role you will oversee a direct staff of 5 managers and supervisors and an overall department of 100 employees. The Director of Landscape and Land Management will combine their passion for grounds, horticulture and agriculture with solid business acumen to oversee an operationally sound and balanced department while maintaining campus standards and expectations as they pertain to safety and aesthetics.

 Knowledge/Experience Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with emphasis in Horticulture and/or Business Administration.
  2. A minimum of four years of leadership experience, including supervision of managers or supervisory levels as well as front-line employees.
  3. A minimum of eight years of experience in landscape or land management field, with experience in a retirement community or university setting preferred.
  1. Excellent Communications skills, both verbally and in writing, to a wide variety of individuals.
  2. Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products including outlook, excel, word and power point. 


Essential Functions:

  1. Demonstrates the leadership presence, ability, and technical competence to understand and direct a complex department to serve residents/customers.
  2. Demonstrates the knowledge and ability to understand and comply with all government regulations (federal, state and local laws) pertaining to the Land Management department.
  3. Demonstrates the vision to identify opportunities, develop strategies and tactics to lead the department to achieving optimum production, service, financial performance and customer satisfaction.

  1. Directs and oversees all outside areas of the campus through regular inspections of grounds to maintain a well-manicured and aesthetically pleasing environment for residents, visitors, and employees.
  2. Develops department goals and objectives, establishes and implements policies and procedures for department operation.
  3. Promotes good employee relations, directs and coordinates the work of staff and supervisors utilizing a team approach to complete tasks and to trouble-shoot and solve problems. Coordinates service and staff support for special functions and activities as specified by Executive Director.
  4. Selects, trains/orients, and assigns staff (either directly or through subordinate supervisors).
  5. Reviews, evaluates, and monitors work schedules, work flow, work hours, and duty assignments of personnel; and effects changes as needed.
  6. Develops and maintains job descriptions and standards of performance, evaluates performance, and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions for department personnel.
  7. Prepares annual capital and expense budgets and ensures that the department operates within allocated funds. Consults with Executive Director concerning department budget, major purchase priorities, major projects/renovations, and similar projects requiring large capital expenditures. 
  8. Develops standard specifications for sending out invitations to bid on contract services and to purchases equipment as budgeted or approved.
  9. Manages outside contractors as required to provide services or to supplement permanent staff.
  10. Directs the preparation and maintenance of department records and reports and prepares periodic reports for Executive Director.
  11. Assures maintenance and repair programs are in place for department facilities and equipment to promote efficiency and safety for staff.
  12. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
